Aquatic Assessment

London Mining Corporation, Sierra Leone

Aquatic Ecosystem Services undertook estuarine and freshwater aquatic assessments for an expansion EIA on behalf of the London Mining Corporation in Sierra Leone.

The estuarine component involved assessing benthic habitats and faunal composition in order to assess severity of impacts of proposed dredging activities within the Sierra Leone estuary and Port Loko Creek.

At the mine site several tributaries leading into the Rokel River, and sites on the Rokel River itself, were assessed to determine ichthyofaunal and macro-invertebrate composition as well as to determine key water quality parameters.
